Our Magical Beginning

About Our Owner

I am Ms. Darcy Kennedy and I am the Owner of The Magical Years Early Learning Center, Inc. Education and teaching have always been my passion. Upon receiving my Master’s Degree in Education from Lesley University I ventured on to open my very own Preschool. The Magical Years was established in 2005 in Halifax as a one room, half day preschool program. As the demand for quality academic base childcare grew, so did TMY. Over the last 15 years The Magical Years has expanded to 2 additional locations and began providing full day programs to children ages 3 months to 8 years.

Over the course of TMY’s expansions so did my own family. My husband Sean and I have 5 beautiful children, 2 are still currently enrolled and 3 have graduated from our program.

I am incredibly proud of our program and all the amazing educators I am lucky enough to work alongside each day. Together we are honored to have shared in the joy of helping hundreds of children learn, grow and thrive, preparing them for success in school and in life. My vision has and will always be to provide families the BEST for their child as well as make a positive and meaningful impact on the lives of as many families, children, and staff that I can.

I want to personally thank you for your interest in our school and hope that you will join us on our Magical Journey.

About Our Staff

The Magical Years employs teachers who are trained and experienced in early childhood education, child development, and the arts. Training for the staff is ongoing and focuses on teaching techniques that help to enhance early development of children on a variety of levels. Teachers in the program are continually refining their skills and techniques through in-service programs, workshops and conferences in the field of early childhood education. Teacher assistants and teachers’ aids are under direct supervision of the certified staff and also participate in continuing education programs. All staff members are CPR and First Aid certified and certified through the Department of Early Education and Care. All staff members have had extensive background checks and have been fingerprinted through EEC.

All staff members recognize the importance of teacher-child interactions and strive to establish and maintain warm and trusting relationships with children and their families. Activities and routines are based on sound developmentally appropriate practices and build on the child’s natural curiosity and problem solving abilities. Children participate in many movement, music, play and language activities and have the opportunities to work and play in small and large groups as well as individually. Our child centered philosophy reflects an understanding of the needs of young children.
